Timothy Detweiler Central Plains Scholarship

The Timothy Detweiler Central Plains Scholarship was founded in 2004 to support students a Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) as they prepare for ministry and leadership in the church.

In keeping with the intent of the fund, priority consideration may be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • A student from Iowa or Central Plains Conference who is working toward a degree or certificate

All qualified students are eligible to apply and will be considered. When applicants do not meet the preferred criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to other students who demonstrate financial need and alignment with the purposes of the fund.

As of June 30, 2025, the scholarship's market value was $23,037. Once the fund reaches $25,000, the earnings will be paid out annually to assist applicable students.

More about the Timothy Detweiler Central Plains Scholarship

This scholarship began as the Iowa/AMBS Scholarship in 2004 to make theological education at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) more affordable. The original gifts came from two farm families in SE Iowa.

In 2025, the scholarship was renamed to remember and honor Tim Detweiler, a long-time Pastor and Conference Minister in the Central Plains Conference of MCUSA. Tim graduated from AMBS in 1981 with an MDiv degree and served as a congregational pastor in Colorado, Iowa, and Montana. He became Conference Minister for Central Plains Mennonite Conference in 2000 and felt privileged to walk alongside congregations, seeking to follow Jesus’ example of love and peace in his ministry. Tim died of cancer in 2023.
