Arthur H and Viola V Friesen Scholarship

The Arthur H and Viola V Friesen Scholarship was founded in 2004 to support students a Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) as they prepare for ministry and leadership in the church.

In keeping with the intent of the fund, priority consideration may be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:

• A Native American student
• A student interested in Native American ministries

All qualified students are eligible to apply and will be considered. When applicants do not meet the preferred criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to other students who demonstrate financial need and alignment with the purposes of the fund.

As of June 30, 2025, the scholarship's market value was $40,434. The earnings are paid out annually to cover approximately 13% of tuition.

More about Arthur and Viola

Arthur H. Friesen, Reedley, Calif., and Viola V. Graber, Freeman, S.D., met as older students at Bethel College in North Newton, Kan. Both were interested in mission work and attended one year at Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago (1939-1940), prior to the formation of Mennonite Biblical Seminary. They served as missionaries to the Cheyenne and Arapahoe in Oklahoma from 1940 to 1958 under the General Conference Mennonite Church Board of Foreign Missions. They were life-long supporters of Mennonite Biblical Seminary and AMBS.
