More about Jacob and Joan
LaMar Reichert established this scholarship in honor of Jacob "Jake" and Joan Enz who both had a positive impact on his life. Jake was a Bible professor at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary from 1954-84, but was also LaMar's pastor at First Mennonite Church in Nappanee, Indiana. Jake mentored LaMar and accompanied him in front of the "draft board" as he declared his status as a Conscientious Objector. Jake gave the message at the wedding of LaMar and his wife, Adele, in 1959 at Meadows Mennonite Church.
LaMar appreciated Joan's influence in his life, including when he took piano lessons from her and singing in the choir under her direction. She encouraged people to use their God-given gifts to do the best that they could with those talents. Jake and Joan were servants of the church and impacted the lives of many people. LaMar explained, "They gave witness to their beliefs through their lives daily."
