More about Martha

Martha was a member of Kidron Mennonite Church in Kidron, Ohio. She held a master’s degree in education and dedicated her teaching career to schools in Puerto Rico, Texas, Iowa, and Ohio. Fiercely independent, Martha had a deep love for international travel, especially to Spanish-speaking countries. She taught for several years at Academia Menonita Betania in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, where she developed a lasting appreciation for Spanish culture. During her time at Central Christian School, she led Mini-Term classes to Mexico, offering students opportunities to engage in conversational Spanish and experience the local culture.

Martha played violin in the Orrville Community Messiah Orchestra, later sharing this joy with her daughter, Stacy, whom she adopted when Stacy was ten years old. She delighted in planting and preserving produce from her garden, enthusiastically fed the birds at her backyard feeders—and, though less enthusiastically, the squirrels who inevitably joined them. In retirement, she volunteered with Open Arms Ministry and deeply cherished time with her grandchildren. Martha passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, in Orrville, Ohio.

This scholarship was established with funds from Martha’s estate.
