R.L. Hartzler Scholarship
The R.L. Hartzler Scholarship was founded in 2005 to make theological education at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) more affordable. The scholarship provides funds to:
- Any student demonstrating financial need
As of June 30, 2024, the scholarship's market value was $10,581. The earnings are paid out annually to cover approximately 4% of tuition.

More about R.L.
Raymond Livingston "R.L." Hartzler was ordained as a minister in 1916 and as an elder in 1931. His pastorates included Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Topeka, Ind. (1916-1928); Carlock Mennonite Church in Ill. (1928-1941); and several interim pastorates. R.L. served the Central Conference Mennonite Church in a variety of capacities after 1927, including conference secretary (1928-1937) and board member for Mennonite Biblical Seminary (1943-1959). He was instrumental in the affiliation of the Central Conference Mennonite Church with the General Conference Mennonite Church (1946) and in the merger of the Central Conference with the Middle District Conference (1957) to form the Central District Conference of the General Conference Mennonite Church. He served the new district as conference minister (1957-1964). He died June 27, 1988, at Bloomington, Ill. R.L. was passionate about the Church and preparing people for pastoral ministry with a solid foundation in Anabaptist theology.
