More about Janeen

Janeen Bertsche Johnson received her Master of Divinity degree from AMBS in 1989 and served for six years on the pastoral team of Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita, Kansas. In 1995, she returned to AMBS to become the seminary's first campus pastor, a role she has held since then. Throughout the years, she has also had roles as core adjunct instructor, alumni director, admissions counselor, development associate, Rooted and Grounded Conference coordinator, creation care coordinator, interim choir director, and continuing education director.

Janeen has also had many involvements at the congregational, conference, and denominational level, including serving as president of Central District Conference and serving eight years on the executive board of Mennonite Church USA. She is currently in her second of three years of AMBS' Doctor of Ministry program. Janeen and her husband Barry are members of Eighth Street Mennonite Church in Goshen and have two adult children and two grandsons. This scholarship was founded by Janeen's father, David Bertsche, using estate gifts from Janeen's mother Evie, who died in February 2022.
