Sue Conrad Howes Pastoral Leadership Fund
The Sue Conrad Howes Pastoral Leadership Fund was founded in 2015 to make theological education at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) more affordable. The scholarship provides funds to students who are:
- single/unmarried woman, or
- Mennonite (preferred, but other Anabaptist groups considered), or
- pursuing M.Div degree (preferably for pastoral ministry in a local Anabaptist congregation), or
- if there are no students in a year who meet the above guidelines, the scholarship may be awarded to any student demonstrating financial need
As of June 30, 2024, the scholarship's market value was $17,861. Once the fund reaches $25,000, the earnings will pay out annually to assist applicable students.

More about Sue
Sue earned her MDiv degree from AMBS in 2005. When she attended AMBS and earned her Master of Divinity degree, Sue Conrad Howes was single. To provide for her financial needs during her theological studies, Conrad Howes worked as a waitress and took on student loan indebtedness. To honor Sue’s persistence and hard work, and her subsequent ministry as a pastor and a chaplain, Sue’s husband, Michael, years later, established the Sue Conrad Howes Endowed Scholarship. The goal of the scholarship is to provide tuition assistance to single women who are supporting themselves through seminary and preparing for ministry as pastors or chaplains in Mennonite Church USA.
