I am a United Methodist who felt the call to seminary and chose AMBS as the first taste of my theological education. At the time, I was unsure of many things. However, I was certain that AMBS was a safe place to find my footing at the start of a long journey. As a United Methodist student, I was uncertain how I would pay for seminary. It was a delightful surprise to be named a recipient of the John & Berniece Esau Scholarship. This was a wonderful beginning to my education as a pastor. Next month (June 2024), I will be ordained as a UMC elder. Thank you to the Esau family for their generous support. - Cindy Uhrich, MDiv, 2020 (completed degree at United Theological Seminary), South Bend, Indiana
We were grateful recipients of generous financial support for our seminary education at AMBS between 2005 and 2007. Our years in seminary were very formative as we discerned our call to a shared ministry. Significantly formative were the relationships and dialogues with professors and classmates - in the classroom, of course, but also over lunch, at chapels, and other informal settings. Even now, when we return to the campus, there is a sense of spiritual homecoming, where our call to ministry was tended and nurtured. We are currently serving two congregations in Ontario - Elmira Mennonite (Elmira) and Shantz Mennonite (Baden). - Kendall, MDiv, 2007, and Charleen, MDiv, 2007, Jongejan Harder, Kitchener, Ontario
I am very grateful for the scholarship I received during my studies at the Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS). It allowed my family and me to live comfortably while I pursued my education. Worrying about how to pay tuition can be incredibly stressful, but thanks to the John & Bernice Esau scholarship, I was able to focus on my studies with peace of mind. Today, I am ordained and serve as the Women's Director for the Christian Council of Tanzania. - Esther Muhagachi, MDiv, 2023, Dodoma, Tanzania
