John and Bernice Esau Scholarship
The John and Bernice Esau Scholarship was founded in 2003 to support students a Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) as they prepare for ministry and leadership in the church.
In keeping with the intent of the fund, priority consideration may be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Students enrolled in the MDiv Campus degree program
All qualified students are eligible to apply and will be considered. When applicants do not meet the preferred criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to other students who demonstrate financial need and alignment with the purposes of the fund.
As of June 30, 2025, the scholarship's market value was $54,292. The earnings are paid out annually to cover approximately 18% of tuition.

More about John and Bernice
Bernice's vocation was as a surgical nurse in several hospitals. She completed her career as Patient Care Coordinator in Newton, Kan. John is a graduate of Mennonite Biblical Seminary (1962) and served on the AMBS Board of Directors (1999-2009). He pastored Faith Mennonite Church in Minneapolis, Minn., and Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton, Kan., and then for 15 years served as the director of ministerial leadership for the General Conference Mennonite Church. John and Bernice are members at Bethel College Mennonite Church. They share a strong commitment to the value and importance of theological education in preparation for service in pastoral ministry for Christ and the church.
