About

Ross Ringenberg Memorial Scholarship

The Ross Ringenberg Memorial Scholarship was founded in 2016 to support students a Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) as they prepare for ministry and leadership in the church.

In keeping with the intent of the fund, priority consideration may be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • an “unconventional student” missed by other scholarship opportunities, or
  • someone with physical limitations, or
  • someone with other limitations to participation

All qualified students are eligible to apply and will be considered. When applicants do not meet the preferred criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to other students who demonstrate financial need and alignment with the purposes of the fund.

As of June 30, 2025, the scholarship's market value was $296,272. The earnings are paid out annually to cover approximately 99% of tuition.

More about Ross

At the age of 8 through a variety of health related issues, it was discovered Ross had an AVM (artero-venous malformation) in his upper spinal cord. Over the years because of surgeries to correct this and due to the nature of the malformation, Ross became increasingly physically disabled so that by the end of his life (age 33) Ross was functionally quadriplegic.

In spite of these physical limitations Ross finished high school, graduated from college, held a full-time and then part-time job at Everence and generally found ways to navigate the world with assistance from others. Ross was gracious and invited people (even strangers) to assist him. He was always curious and wanted to engage others. He loved Elkhart and his studies at AMBS where he always made new friends. He lived his life as adventure and his death in Scotland in 2016 was a continuation of that adventure. Ross's birthday is February 23, 1983.
